Greatswords are massively damaging amalgamations of metal and monster parts whose primary strength lies within their enormous weight. To even lift one of these gigantic blades is a feat of strength, and to swing one is truly a display to be feared… Even a single clean hit can cleave through even some of the toughest monster hides in a manner that will surely be felt.
There are several things to keep in mind when using a greatsword. Perhaps the most important of which is their weight... These are some seriously heavy objects. These are not a weapon you swing with ease, but even simply letting them drop on something can do damage. You will probably need some sort of strength enhancement to be able to wield these weapons; be it a demon drug, a powercharm, or some effect granted by your armor itself.
In addition, without being some sort of truly herculean being, these even still are not weapons that you swing, so much as the weapons swing you. Once a greatsword is in motion, you would be incredibly hard-pressed to actually cease that motion. Quite often these blades may weigh nearly as much as you do, if not even more so. Without proper care, you can quite easily find your weapon being the one swinging you about, rather than the other way around.
The thickness of these blades can make for a powerful guarding implement, albeit at a detriment to the blade itself, but do keep in mind, when something as big as a monster is slamming its weight into the flat of your blade, even the strongest of hunters might be pushed back, and a greatsword is not something you want to be falling onto your back with one above you.
Greatswords are a truly terrifying weapon to behold in the hands of a skilled hunter. But without proper training and care, can easily be just as much of a detriment to a hunter’s well-being as any monster. Stand fast, wait for your opening, and move in for a single devastating blow… That is the greatsword way.
